Photography Class- Final

Cohesive Series

For the final assignment, we were to shoot a series of 10 images that were connected in some way. It was a challenge, but each image could be taken in anyway we wanted and there were no limits, aside from it being cohesive.

I decided to break my 10 images into a series of my home and my home away from home. The 5 photos on the left are images that I shot at my childhood home and the images on the right are in my current apartment.

Photography Class- Assignment 3

Diptych

For this assignment, I was instructed to create two diptychs with two separate images as a complementary pair. A diptych creates or implies a relationship to form one single artistic statement.

For my first diptych, I went with secrets as my theme. I tried to make the images almost touch by having the lock off centered towards the right and having my model framed more towards the left side of frame.

For the second one, I was trying to show how social media has taken us captive in a way. We are all focused on liking, tagging, checking into life’s moments and not always enjoying a moment even though they are fleeting. I myself enjoy my social networks, but unplugging a bit from time to time can’t hurt. Keeps you grounded.  I used another ball joint object, this time being a hand. I wanted it to be puppet like to further get the message across. In the partner image, I went with a cord wrapped around an image cut out of the earth to again, further explain, my message. I like how the shadow came out in the image of the hand.

Photography Class-Assignment 2

Constructed Realities

For the second assignment, my teacher had us take 4 images with the idea of a constructed reality, something that we created specifically for the camera to shoot. Imagine or recreate a story, scene, painting, or an event and stage it with the appropriate “actors” or figures, costumes, objects, images, lighting, ect.

For my 4 images I decided to recreate fairy tale characters, each one inspired a bit by Disney’s portrayal. I am a huge fan of Disney and had a lot of fun creating each Princess. I used a ball-joint doll as my “model” and hand made their dresses and yarn wigs. I put together a background for each model that I felt represented each model’s story. All in all, it was an assignment I enjoyed immensely.

Photography Class- Assignment 1

Camera Basics

For my last semester at the University of Houston, I decided to take an intro photography class. Photography has always been something I have wanted to learn, aside from instagram photos of books, I wanted to learn a few basics to get me started with digital photography. I used a DLSR Rebel Cannon in all of these photos. I am very pleased with the knowledge I was able to learn during my last semester at UH. For the first assignment, we were supposed to learn the basics of capturing a photo with perfect exposures. Learning how to manually change the shutter speed and the aperture, these are only a few of the photos I took for the assignment.
